My creations are inspired by the natural beauty of the Rocky Mountains I was raised in and the amazing people who feel at home in the Kootenay region. I have incorporated loom beading as an attempt to reconnect with my Metis ancestors to which I attribute a unique aspect of my creative aesthetic. While experimenting, I combined salvaged bicycle parts and guitar strings to offer an edgy spin on the delicate gemstones that my works encompass. I have collaborated with another Kimberley artist who specializes in hand carvings. Although Errol Evanic is skilled in carving all types of stone, I have mainly gravitated towards his antler carvings.
Antler is a perfect medium to match with my Kootenay style and symbolizes strength, fertility and sexual/creative energy. Further to this, the deer is a symbol of gentleness in word, thought and touch, appreciation for balance, connection to the woodland goddess and alternative paths to a goal. While researching my Celtic background I discovered that the deer is linked to poetry and music in ancient Celtic animal lore. Some of the many symbolic meanings for the deer are: love, grace, humility, regrowth, creativity, spirituality, abundance and watchfulness.
